Rougned Odor's Deal With Rangers Includes Two Horses

Apr 1, 2017 10:06 PM

The Texas Rangers officially announced a new six-year deal for Rougned Odor on Thursday.

The contract has a club option for 2023, guarantees him at least $49.5 million and also comes with two horses.

The Rangers suggested including the horses in the new contract as a negotiating tactic.

"It's our policy when we make a contract offer, we copy the player on it," Jon Daniels said. "So Rougie has these big numbers in front of him, and he has a poker face. Nothing changed. Then I slid my phone across with a picture of the horses on it, and he said, 'Hey, can you send that to me?' His eyes lit up, and I thought, 'All right, maybe we have a chance.'"

It includes a $2 million signing bonus and a $13.5 million club option for 2023 with a $3 million buyout. Odor's salary will be $1 million this season, and then it will increase to $3 million in 2018 and $7.5 million in 2019. He will make $9 million in 2020 before $12 million in each of the last two years of the contract.

Jimmy Rollins Told He Won't Make Giants

Mar 30, 2017 8:42 AM

After hitting just .125 in 40 at-bats this spring, the San Francisco Giants have informed Jimmy Rollins that he won't make the club.

"We've talked to Jimmy and he knows the scenario and the situation," Bruce Bochy said. "We're just waiting to hear back from him."

Rollins did not make the trip to Sloan Park for the Giants' final Cactus League exhibition game.

The infielder, 38, can opt out of his contract on Thursday but could ask for his release if he feels he has a chance to catch on with another club.

Orioles Release Michael Bourn, Chris Johnson

Mar 28, 2017 8:02 AM

The Baltimore Orioles have released Michael Bourn and Chris Johnson, per a team release.

Bourn used his opt-out clause with the club as they failed to place him on the 40-man roster. He missed most of the spring with a broken finger, which made it difficult for him to make the Opening Day roster.

Johnson had a solid spring, slashing .269/.310/.493, but that wasn't enough to earn a spot on the Major League roster.
